AKF’s life mission: bringing dog meat traders to justice.

In recent years, there have been many sprouting organizations that have been joining in the fight against animal cruelty, neglect, and abuse. Oftentimes, cases of pet animals being neglected abound on social media pages with reporters begging that these pets be rescued. Probably at the harshest end of animal cruelty is the dog meat trade which often times involves abandoned, neglected, and unwanted strays.

Considered one of the most serious animal welfare concerns in the Philippines, trading and consuming dog meat is widespread in many parts of the country. Stray dogs bear the brunt of this cruel practice, with many of these animals taken from the streets, tortured, and inhumanely slaughtered.

In partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Animal Industry – Animal Welfare Division (BAI – AWD), DILG (Department of Local Government), and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) has helped in fighting animal welfare abuses, especially dog meat trade.

AKF has successfully conducted surveillance, stake-outs, and raids to catch dog slaughterers and meat traders.  The dogs rescued from operations, will then be rehabilitated  and eventually rehomed – all the while pursuing justice against perpetrators, ensuring that the Animal Welfare Law (R.A. 8485 amended R.A. 10631) is strictly enforced.

Last August 3, AKF attended two hearings for dog meat trading cases in San Ildefonso, Bulacan. AKF’s mission to put a stop to the barbaric practice of dog meat trading, sends a clear and strong message. Perpetrators of the dog meat trade will be jailed.

Conducting a holistic approach in giving these rescued furbabies a new lease in life is something AKF and its volunteers are very proud of doing.  We hope to encourage a more compassionate treatment towards animals of all breeds, shapes, and sizes.
